Our Story
Kalliston Winery was born from the union of two families who have called Santorini home for generations. In 1922, Eleftherios Mendrinos first transformed the island’s volcanic soil into wine, beginning a legacy that has now spanned four generations. The Kafouros family brought their own traditions in viticulture, passing down knowledge with the same care and devotion as the vines themselves.
Our canava, a traditional cave winery carved into volcanic stone, holds both history and craft. Here, the old techniques of winemaking are preserved and refined through careful modern practices, creating a place where past and present meet.
Production remains intentionally small, between two thousand and ten thousand bottles each year, ensuring that every bottle of Kalliston Winery reflects the unique character of Santorini and the devotion of families who see winemaking as both heritage and way of life.

The history of the island is connected to viticulture and naturally it is connected to the history of our families. The goal of KALLISTON Winery & Vineyards is sustainable agriculture and guide our values such as respect for the place and landscape, responsibility, and persistence in highlighting the expressiveness of Santorini wines.
Our Wines
Our wines are classic expressions of different indigenous grape varieties that are traditionally cultivated in Santorini, as Assyrtiko, Aidani, Athiri, Mavrotragano, and Mandilaria.
Our small winery is an old traditional canava (traditional family winery) of the last century in the traditional settlement of Messaria located in the central part of the island.
